Rising songstress Billie Black has quietly emerged as a formidable musical talent, no easy feat when coming out of the hotbed of excellence that is London. Yet Black’s penchant for songwriting and disarming vocal presence distinguishes her from the rest, as her love for electronic and bass production, combined with her roots in jazz and soul make for an exceptional result.
Her debut EP 000 100 is a focused project, showcasing Black’s ability to weave together various influences into one cohesive offering. The 19-year-old artist first made an impression back in June with “I Waited For You”, while being a first year student at Guildhall School of Music. But if you’ve been paying close attention, then you may have also already heard, “I Don’t Need Another Lover” or her fantastic collaboration with Mura Masa, “The Simple Pleasure“. The rest of her EP adds two brand new songs to the mix though in “Black & White” and “Do You Really”, a pair of tracks just as quality as their predecessors.
