Grimes Scraps Planned Album, Says It “Sucked” And Is Starting Over

Claire Boucher, more commonly known as Grimes, was recently interviewed by the New York Times. In the article she talks about her latest single “Go“, a bombastic pop song originally written for Rihanna, and how it’s release formed a disconnect with many of her fans:

“It upsets a lot of my fans, and I get why it upsets them,” says Boucher of the big, booming track. “Everybody was like, ‘Oh, Grimes is pandering to the radio.”

Boucher took that criticism to heart, discarding the material that was planned for her next album (the first of which under Roc Nation):

“It sucked,” Boucher says, “so I threw it out and started again.”

It’s unlikely that fans will get a new Grimes album this year, a prospect that looked very promising back in January. But one has to respect and admire an artist’s sense of integrity.  Her 2012 album Visions, was a critically acclaimed post-internet pop gem, and one that brought a breath of fresh air to the pop genre as a whole. So here’s to hoping that whatever Grimes is now cooking up resonates on a similar level.  (via DIY)
