Listen: Drake, “Come Thru” (James Blake Edition)

It’s been noted that Drake is a big fan of James Blake, especially considering Blake was the only non hip-hop act at OVO Fest. Today, James Blake posted his hyped-up version of the slow burning NWTS jam “Come Thru” on Facebook, and it’s a banger. When the track initially starts off, it sounds pretty similar to its original counterpart with a sluggish pace and Drake’s melancholy crooning. But as soon as the Toronto rapper starts his verse, the beat descends into sinister synth-driven madness, and listeners realize that Blake was made to produce an alternative form of hip-hop. Here’s hoping that more Blake production for the genre actually comes to fruition in the future. And if you missed their 2011 mash-up album James Drake you should definitely give it a spin.
