Listen: Friends, “The Way”

No, this band isn’t in any way related to the corny 90’s sitcom.  Friends, fronted by lead singer Samantha Urbani, originated from Brookyln and have actually been on the music scene going on two years now.  Their release of music has been calculated, but each track they produce is quality. From the funky, up-tempo groove “Feelin’ Dank” or the psychedellic synth-laden “Friend Crush” (both of which appeared on their debut album Manifest! last summer), this indie-rock pop group has shown promise from the beginning.  “The Way” is a slow, R&B-influenced jam that is a welcome change of pace for a band that has been said to be going through “some lineup changes”.  Urbani’s voice is gentle but strong, combining with sluggish guitar riffs and dreamy synths from Dev Hynes to form one of Friends’ best songs to date.  (via Stereogum)
