The combination of Kiesza, a gifted house-leaning vocalist, and Joey Bada$$, an emcee reminiscent of 90’s New York rap, might initially seem weird on paper. Yet the duo’s collaboration on the former’s “Bad Thing” smoothly works itself out throughout the track’s three-and-a-half-minute length.
Compared to booming tracks like “Hideaway” or “Enemiesz”, “Bad Thing” switches things up, dialing down the pace with a steady dose of hi-hats and slow-rolling percussion. Bada$$ proceeds to spit a couple of low-key verses while Kiesza gets down and soulful on a track that demonstrates the singer’s versatility. Sound Of A Woman, Kiesza’s debut album, is out on October 21 through Island.
