Yesterday, a blog favorite in Jacques Greene announced a new EP titled After Life After Party, with an accompanying video for “1 4 Me”. If you listened to his recent mix for Fact Mag, you would’ve heard the hypnotic track on the tail-end of it. But if you didn’t, “1 4 Me” is a malleable house cut, subtly increasing in intensity as it progresses, using a distant, distorted vocal sample with the ability to transfix.
“1 4 Me” and the title track (along with remixes from Suicideyear and Sei A) make up the four track After Life After Party EP. As for the video, directed by Melissa Matos of Montreal design collective Trusst, it delves into the art of a relatively new YouTube trend called ‘Nike TN dipping‘. Here’s what Greene had to say about his new project:
“These tracks were born out of experimenting with a bit of self-imposed restraints. Afterlife was a particular sound palette I wanted to stick to and see what would come of it. ‘1 4 Me’ was trying to challenge myself to keep an arrangement dead simple. They came out of a period that was actually really prolific for me and I hope to share more soon, but these two stuck together with a playful spirit. Some fun for the end of summer, as we tread into winter.”
