With so many dance outfits forming and putting out music currently (especially in the UK), it’s easy to get overlooked or lost in the shuffle. But as the saying goes, ‘cream rises to the top’, and the elite don’t get ignored for long. And while it might be too hasty to classify the young, London-based duo as part of their genre’s crème de la crème, Wayward‘s debut EP is the kind of initial project that slowly makes waves throughout the vast digital expanse that is the blogosphere.
Titled Ugetsu (out through Black Butter), the first collected body of work from producers Lawrence Gale Hayes and Louis Greenwood is a lively, irresistible record. A distinct infusion of neo-soul and house music powers Ugetsu, and with R&B and club influences just dripping throughout, listeners ultimately end up with one seriously good EP.
