When you press play for the first time on neo-soul artist Nick Hakim‘s “I Don’t Know”, almost immediately you’re swept up into a simplistically beautiful soundscape. The 23-year-old Brooklyn-based musician puts forth a restrained, yet emotional performance, and possesses a striking voice that seamlessly melds with a soft-spoken piano and silky guitar line. It’s not hard to see why Maxwell himself hand-picked Hakim to open for him on a handful of dates this past July.
Nick Hakim’s new EP Where We Will We Go Pt. 2 is out on September 16 via his own Earseed Records, and is the follow-up to his acclaimed Where Will We Go Pt. 1 EP that was released earlier this summer. If you’re in the NYC area this month, you should definitely check him out at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right where he will be playing a residency for the entirety of August. Enjoy.
